Charcoal practice

I like to try out new techniques and discover different ways to accomplish something. I rarely work in charcoal but for the few times I have, they have been preferred over my graphites. I started a baby portrait of an illustrator I know in St. Louis, Missouri. She shared the image of her baby years as a Throwback Thursday post on Facebook last month and it was too cute. I asked if I could practice with it and she agreed as long as she got to see what I did with it. It’s not finished yet.

I’ll share the illustrator, with her permission along with the finished piece, when done. 🙂
